Tourists hoping to go up the Eiffel Tower to catch the stunning views of the City of Paris is in for a huge disappointment this weekend.
The landmark is closed to visitors all day Friday and Saturday. The usually mild City of Lights, along with many other parts of France, has experienced unprecedented snowfall and rain this week, leading French authorities to shut down its most visited landmarkĀ and suggest that Parisians stay home.
The snow began earlier this week and, on Tuesday evening, caused some of the worst traffic jams Paris has ever seen.
A record 700 km (about 435 miles) of roads in the French capital came to a standstill, and the city’s public transportation systems experienced major delays. As of Wednesday, 6 inches of snow had fallen in Paris, with several more centimeters falling by Friday morning, the heaviest snowfall the city has seen since the late 1980s.
