At least eight cars were crushed under the bridge and at least eight people have been transported to hospitals for treatment, authorities said.The bridge’s span was just installed Saturday, an effort to boost safety on a busy street where a FIU student was fatally struck by a vehicle last year.
Officials are continuing the search for victims, although they said they weren’t certain people were still trapped beneath the debris.
Mayor Carlos Gimenez told CNN affiliate WFOR that at least one person died.Officials initially found at least 8 vehicles crumpled beneath the debris, said Gimenez, who is in China on business. Victims were trapped in cars beneath the rubble.

A team of 15 investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board is on its way to Miami to begin an inquiry into the collapse.
